RESIDENT FIGHTS OFF ARMED INTRUDER IN CARDIFF BREAK-IN

An man armed with a knife has threatened a resident during a break-in in Newcastle today.

According to police, about 7:30am a man broke into a home on Mills Street in Cardiff.

A 52-year-old resident confronted the man and a struggle took place, in which the intruder produced a knife.

He fled on foot and was last seen running along Mills Street.

A search was imitated by police but he could not be located.

The assailant is described as being of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged in his early 20s, about 170cm tall with a thin build and short black hair. He was dressed in dark clothing.
