GLENCORE TO REOPEN OLD GLENNIES CREEK MINE
In a positive sign for the mining industry, Glencore has announced plans to re-open the old Glennies Creek mine in the Upper Hunter.
The coal giant bought the underground operation after it was closed in 2014.
Ian Cribb, the head of Glencore’s Australian coal operations, says global demand for coking coal has prompted its decision to restart the mine under the new name, Integra.
“Over the next two years, we also plan to complete and extract coal from a second longwall block that has already been partially developed at the mine”, he said.
It’s hoped production will begin in early 2017, and run for around two years.
