POLICE REVIEWING CAMERA FOOTAGE OF MEREWETHER PUB FIGHT

Police say they’re yet to establish the cause of a series of brawls involving around 20 people outside the Prince of Wales hotel in the Newcastle suburb of Merewether early on Saturday evening.

There are reports two groups arrived at the licensed venue around 5.30pm, when an altercation broke out on the footpath.

At least two were injured and were treated at the scene by paramedics for cuts and abrasions.

While no arrests have been made at this stage, officers have reviewed video footage from the pub’s CCTV and from witnesses’ mobile phones.

They say they have identified a number of the people involved and intend to interview in coming days.

Officers are also working to identify others who were present.

Local police have described the incident as cowardly.

  1. These are the same guys that were at the Jewells Tavern about an hour earlier and left in a white bus. They were drunk then.
