Beaches in Byron Bay have reopened, a day after a 36-year-old man was bitten by a shark at Broken Head.

The region’s beaches were closed for 24 hours after Jade Fitzpatrick was attacked at around 7.30am off Broken Head.

Surf life savers have been conducting roving patrols along the coastline, but there has been no confirmed sightings of sharks.

The decision to reopen the beaches was made by local Lifeguards in consultation with NSW Police and Byron Bay Council.

Lifeguards will continue to monitor the beaches for any shark activity with the safety of the beach-goers remaining the number one priority.

Yesterday’s attack was the third in the space of a month.
