ASBESTOS WASTE DUMPED NEAR KURRI KURRI

The Hunter’s Regional Illegal Dumping Squad is appealing for information, after 15 tonnes of waste containing asbestos was dumped near Kurri Kurri.

Investigators believe the material is from the demolition of a house, and that a large tipper truck is likely to have dumped the rubbish on the side of Hart Road at Loxford on Sunday October 2.

The RID Squad has also released a picture of a birthday card, which was found in the waste.

“The card is quite old, but was given to a young boy named Earl from Uncle Wayne, Aunty Liz and Mandy,” said co-ordinator Rob Robertson.

“We are hoping that someone may recognise the combination of names and get in touch with us to help identify the origin of this material. We believe it’s from an older house that has been demolished in the last two weeks or so.”

The illegal dumping of asbestos can carry heavy penalties, including fines up to $250,000 for individuals and $1-million for companies.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the RID Squad on 4921 0171.
