Bureau of Meteorology warns that heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in eastern Sydney and Central Coast tonight and tomorrow.

Read the full statement from the bureau:

A low pressure system is expected to form about central parts of the New South Wales coast today, before rapidly moving east away from the coast during Thursday morning.

Heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding is likely about eastern parts of Sydney and the Central Coast during Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning.

Localised 12 hour rainfall totals in excess of 100mm are likely. Rainfall rates are expected to be highest during Wednesday evening, then ease during Thursday morning as the low moves east away from the New South Wales Coast.

Locations which may be affected include eastern parts of Sydney, Gosford, Wyong and The Entrance.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

– Don’t drive, ride or walk through flood water

– Keep clear of creeks and storm drain

– If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue

– For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
