  • Lake Macquarie sailors Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen have won silver for Australia in the 49er class sailing in Rio. Earlier Lake Macquarie’s Will Ryan and Matt Belcher also won silver in the 470 class. Sprint kayakers Ken Wallace and the Central Coast’s Lachlan Tame won bronze in the men’s K2 1000m.
  • Meantime, Australian swimmers Josh Parker and Emma McKeon have been banned from attending the closing ceremony after a boozy night out and failing to return to the athletes village without notifying officials.
  • CCTV has disproved a story by American athletes including Ryan Lochte that they were robbed by a man with a gun, when actually they had a disagreement with a security guard after damaging a service station bathroom.
  • An Australian woman is one of two people being sought by Indonesian Police, after the body of an officer was found, with severe head wounds, on a Bali beach. The handbag and driver’s licence of Sara Connor were found located at the murder scene in Kuta.
  • The wildfire emergency continues in Southern California, where 29 blazes are still burning out of control. One of the hardest hit areas in San Bernardino, where more than 30,000 homes are under threat.
