WEATHER: ECL TO REACH ITS PEAK TONIGHT

The east coast low will reach its peak tonight, hammering the northern NSW coast.

Powerful damaging winds will extend north, south east of QLD overnight. Large seas and swell, combined with abnormally high tides, will cause extensive coastal erosion with sea inundation possible.

Heavy flooding rain will be driven in across the coast, extending north from Port Macquarie to Byron Bay.

The tail of the system will whip across the far north eastern coast to south east QLD early tomorrow morning.
