BOGGED 4WD RESCUED IN WATAGAN MOUNTAINS

Meanwhile, three people – including a pregnant woman – have been found safe and well after their four-wheel drive became bogged deep in the Watagan State Forest, west of Lake Macquarie late last night.

The 26-year-old driver, his expectant wife, and another female – who had no food or water – were located this morning by police and volunteer rescuers.

“They were all lucky that they didn’t have a medical emergency during it, one lady was pregnant and one lady was diabetic, so being stranded out there the diabetic didn’t have her medication overnight, so it had the potential to turn nasty,” Tuggerah Lakes Chief Inspector Colin Lott said.

The trio had driven for around two and a half hours before getting stuck in a deep puddle on Lemon Tree Road.

“It was a little bit hard. They got themselves bogged really well. Managed to use some hand turpers and winches to get the vehicle out. Once it was out luckily it was able to start again and they were on their way,” Central Coast Volunteer Rescue Captain Joel Dawes said.

Police are urging four-wheel-drive owners to be prepared for worst-case scenarios – and take the correct equipment and supplies.
