VICTORY IN JAPAN STILL SINKING IN FOR JACKSON BAKER

Merewether surfer Jackson Baker admits his win in the QS 1000 event in Japan is still sinking in.
“I just had people coming up to me for autographs and photos so that was cool. I ended up staying an hour afterwards before I got the chance to speak to mum and dad, I think they thought I was brushing them off.”
The 19-year-old will return to the northern hemisphere next month for events in America, Spain and Portugal.
For now, he’s watching the US Open closely.
“I’ve got to see how this event goes and how far I drop after this event on the rankings … if I make two heats in Virginia I’ll improve my points by a lot.”
Solid results will see Baker qualify for 10,000 point events, later in the year.
