MEDICAL PONTOON GETS MUCH NEEDED UPGRADE

The Evans Head boat harbour’s dilapidated medical access pontoon has been replaced.

The state government prioritized the upgrade after Marine Rescue, NSW Ambulance and the Fisherman’s Co-op, warned the old pontoon had become unsafe.

“It’s about the same size as the old one, but it doesn’t have that lip around the outside edge and there’s no nails sticking out of it and big splinters sticking out of it. So that’s the main advantage of it. It’s a modern facility that we’re able to work with.”

Patients rescued at sea are transferred between marine rescue vessels and waiting ambulances using the structure.
