DRAYTON COAL MINE TO CLOSE IN SEPTEMBER

The doors of the Hunter Valley’s Drayton coal mine are set to close by the end of September, leaving 200 mine workers without a job.

Anglo American has blamed the New South Wales Planning Assessment Commission’s recommendation against its Drayton South expansion for the closure.

The mining giant maintains the expansion is required for ongoing coal supply, however objections were raised due to concerns for nearby horse studs.

Anglo American says it will remain engaged in its ongoing 2015 project application, and will keep a small team on to manage rehabilitation commitments
