200 MINERS SET TO LOSE JOBS AFTER ANGLO AMERICAN ANNOUNCES MINE CLOSURE

An estimated 200 employees will be laid off after mining company Anglo American issued a statement that its Drayton mine will cease operations by the end of September.

Anglo American has stated the mine’s closure is directly related to the NSW Planning Assessment Commission recommendation to reject its Drayton South expansion.

A small team will be retained to manage Anglo American’s rehabilitation commitments.

The global mining company is looking at options with the Planning Assessment Commission in regard to the Drayton South project, after the commission found the mine would adversely impact nearby horse studs.
