A 12-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly lighting a telecommunications service pit on fire, near Taree overnight.
Two Telstra cables were also damaged – causing phone and internet problems for thousands of people from the Mid to Far North Coast.
“Investigations are still early we are seeking any information from members of the public who may have seen or been around that incident at 6:30pm to come forward.”
The boy will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
While Telstra says the majority of services should be restored by the end of today.
