SEARCH FOR EMERGENCY BEACON IN TERRIGAL

Authorities were sent on a wild goose chase yesterday afternoon, tasked with locating an emergency beacon at Terrigal.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was forced to land on Killarney Vale Oval at around 5.30pm, with the crew then searching the streets to locate the beacon.

It was discovered in an old kayak, and had been activated after its batteries expired and corroded.

“Just remember that you do have them, the people involved had forgotten that they did have one in the kayak, so be mindful they do expire so replace when the batteries do expire”

The service says if people are unsure of the expiry date, they should check with their marine dealer for advice.
