AFFORDABLE ACCOMMODATION FOR CANCER PATIENTS

A new partnership, launched in Newcastle this morning, aims to ease the financial burden on cancer patients by offering affordable accommodation near treatment centres.

Cancer Council NSW has teamed up with AccorHotels for the initiative, which will see 62 of the company’s hotels offer rooms at a reduced rate in Sydney, Newcastle and other locations across the state.

Shayne Connell from Hunter Central Coast Cancer Council says it’s concerning to hear that some patients are forfeiting vital treatment because of the cost, and lack of accommodation when being treated away from home.

“When you are diagnosed with cancer, your time should be spent on getting to your radiation and chemotherapy treatments, eating properly and staying focused on the goal of getting better. This partnership with AccorHotels will help local cancer patients and their families rest easy knowing accommodation options close to their treatment facility will be available at a cost affordable to them,” he said.

Hotel staff are trained to deal with specific dietary and housekeeping requirements, while rooms will also contain a support pack from Cancer Council NSW.
