KENNEDY THROUGH TO THIRD ROUND

Lennox Head’s Stu Kennedy continues to turn heads, advancing at Bells Beach, after defeating Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting in the second round.

The in-form injury replacement scored in the high sixes, leaving him with a combined total of 13.2.

Banting, meanwhile, was limited to 10.57.

Earlier, fellow Lennox surfer Adam Melling wasn’t so lucky, knocked out by Jordy Smith of South Africa in heat five.
