Underwater vehicles could be brought in to search waters off Byron Bay for a light plane, missing since Monday.
The alarm was raised, when the Cessna 172, being flown by pilot Paul Whyte failed to return to Lismore Airport.
After reviewing radar data, police now believe the plane crashed into the ocean at high speed.
Investigators don’t believe the accident was suspicious.
