CENTRAL COAST MEN COMMENDED FOR SAVING YOUNG MAN’S LIFE
Two Central Coast men have been awarded for performing first aid under difficult and traumatic circumstances, today receiving high commendations from Royal Surf Life Saving NSW.
In January 2012, a 23-year-old man was sucked into a boat propellor while wakeboarding at Woy Woy, causing serious injuries to his legs.
His friends took him back to the wharf, where Andrew McKellar was working on his boat.
He immediately rendered assistance and administered first aid, while a second man, Roden Woodhams also came to help.
Mr Woodhams applied pressure to the man’s right leg and also assessed whether his femoral artery had been severed.
Both men stayed until paramedics arrived and took him to hospital.
The man’s right leg had to be amputated and he suffered several fractures, but Royal Life Saving NSW says the actions of Mr McKellar and Mr Woodhams undoubtedly saved his life.
