WYONG ROOS PLAYER DE-REGISTERED AFTER ALLEGED ASSAULT

A Wyong Roos junior player has been de-registered after allegedly assaulting a referee and player at the weekend.

It’s alleged the altercation occurred during a game between the junior sides of the Wyong Roos and Lakes United, when a 16-year-old Wyong Roos player allegedly punched a 21-year-old referee in the mouth and nose just moments after being sent off the field in a Sunday match.

It’s alleged he then struck his captain up to seven times, who tried to restrain him.

Country Rugby League has deregistered the player and police are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, former NRL referee Shayne Hayne, who is now the director of junior referees on the Central Coast, says it was the worst attack on a match official he had seen.

“The referee, who is a rising star in our ranks, has spoken to both captains after the incident, which ended after coaches and officials came onto the field to help out, and then called the game off.”

The Wyong Roos have released a statement:

  1. at least there is evidence with this incident, My son got banned last year for pushing a referee with 2 hands that made him to take 2 steps backwards, to a second hearing where its gone to a possible brush, this is all a lie… My son did abuse the referee verbally, but never laid a hand on him, the referee has just lied, We have been going through Newcastle league first and all evidence from that hearing has been deleted, which should not have been as we appealed this decision. We have witnesses stating that either the captain from our team was standing between my son and the referee, , and also no ground officials. or any proper organisation to this game.. Anyway this probably wont even be written on here, but worth a try, as i am heading to media this week to put my sons story out there on the unfairness and injustice, this organisation has, obviously they can just do what they want, my son played for 10yrs with not one mark against his name, but instantly gets a 16 month ban, as it was all around the fifita brothers incident so they just used my son as a scapegoat,
