MELTIQUE BEEF FACTORY DAMAGED IN FIRE

A fire at Wauchope’s Meltique Beef factory has left the company with a damage bill in the thousands, after tonnes of meat was destroyed.

Emergency services were called at about six o’clock last night, following reports of a blaze in one of the refrigeration units.

“It was quite a challenging fire there for fire crews as the seed of the fire was heavily entrenched at the rear behind a lot of frozen goods- the fire crews spent a large amount of time trying to locate the seed,” Gaven Muller from NSW Fire and Rescue said.

Police were on scene today, trying to determine the cause of the fire, while workers cleaned up the site.

It’s hoped the factory, which employs more than 60 people locally, will be up-and-running again in the next week.
