FEARNLEY TO CO-CAPTAIN PARALYMPIC TEAM

Newcastle wheelchair racer Kurt Fearnley has been chosen to co-captain Australia’s Paralympic team for Rio, alongside table tennis player, Daniela Di Toro.
With nine Paralympics between them, the pair will be our first co-captains since 2004.
Fearnley says it’s an honour to take on the role, which is designed to help create a stronger team atmosphere.
He’s looking forward to mentoring athletes preparing to make their games debut.

Mitchell Hughes

Mitchell Hughes started as a tape editor in Newcastle in 1999. He became a reporter in 2004, working in Lismore and on the Gold Coast. Since moving back to the Newcastle office in 2006, he's taken on various roles, such as producer and chief of staff. He became the head sport reporter in 2011 and the main sport presenter in 2015.
