SISTER’S TRIBUTE: FAMILY MOURNS TEEN FOLLOWING FATAL DOSE OF SYNTHETIC CANNABIS

The Rutherford community is today mourning the shock death of popular 17 year old Dean Shield.

His sister Kala Gynn has paid tribute to her beloved brother, saying:

“He was a good kid with a heart of gold and a contagious laugh. He lived every day with a smile or laugh, and life isn’t going to be the same without his cheeky presence.”

Police have revealed the 17 year old Hunter boy died and two men, aged 22, fell seriously ill after allegedly consuming a substance believed to be synthetic cannabis.

Around 8pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Baird Close in Rutherford, after the teenager’s body was discovered in a reserve near a small drain.

While the results of a post-mortem examination are not yet available, police have since been told the teen consumed a substance branded as ‘Chronic’ in the hours before his body was discovered.

Police are warning anyone who is considering experimenting with illicit or synthetic drugs, no matter how they are branded or presented, to stay well away.

They say “it’s a gamble with your life that’s just not worth taking.”

Investigations are ongoing.

We’ll have more on this story tonight at 6pm.
