ASSAULTS, ROBBERIES DOWN ACROSS THE NORTHERN RIVERS

The number of theft and assaults are down across the Northern Rivers, according to the latest crime figures.

The Bureau of Crime Statistics report shows domestic violence incidents fell by over 30 per cent in Ballina and Byron Bay in the 24 months to September, while assaults in Byron dropped 22 per cent.

Car break-ins also fell in Ballina and Lismore, while fewer homes were broken into throughout the Richmond Valley.

Worryingly, Lismore saw a 47 per cent increase in fraud over the same period.
