INVESTIGATOR APPOINTED TO EXAMINE AWABAKAL ABORIGINAL LAND COUNCIL
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Leslie Williams, has appointed an investigator to examine the Awabakal Local Aboriginal Land Council.
It comes amid complaints by the Registrar of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 into the Land Council’s governance and financial management.
The Registrar also suspended the Chairperson for a period of two months from November 2 due to misconduct.
The Land Council was awarded the old Newcastle Post Office building after a sucessful land claim and has plans to redevelop the site.
The investigator is due to provide a written report to Ms Williams in three months time.
