CREWS BATTLING BUSHFIRE NEAR KURRI KURRI

Fire crews are working to extinguish a bushfire near Kurri Kurri.

Emergency services arrived at Stanford Merthyr at around , with the Rural Fire Service describing the area where the fire is burning as hard to reach.

Total fire bans are in place in four regions across the state today, including the Greater Hunter.

The fire danger has been rated as extreme.

Damaging winds of up to 90-kilometres per hour are also expected to lash the state.
