UPDATE: RENEWED PUSH FOR IMMEDIATE SHARK MEASURES
There’s a renewed push for the state government to implement immediate measures, following another shark attack on the Far North Coast.
President of the Le-Ba Boardriders Club, Don Munro, says something needs to be done urgently to tackle the problem.
“We’re back in the revolving door situation. It just won’t go away, it’s just going round and round.
“What answers can they come back with as to why they’re not implementing some of these initiatives immediately?” he said.
It comes after 20-year-old junior surfing champion Sam Morgan was attacked at Lighthouse Beach in Ballina yesterday evening.
He’s been placed in an induced coma at Gold Coast University Hospital.
It’s believed a 2.8 to 3.1-metre bull shark is responsible.
The incident took place at the same beach where bodyboarder Mat Lee was attacked in July.
At least 14 shark attacks have been recorded in New South Wales this year.
