Construction of a road through Pioneer Park in Coffs Harbour will get underway next month.
This is despite a recent demonstration by protestors wanting the land kept for green space.
CBD Masterplan Committee Chairman Rod McKelvey says the park is an existing road reserve and only one or two eucalypt trees will be removed.
He says the project will divert traffic away from the Gordon Street – Harbour Drive intersection which will undergo a major upgrade in the new year.
In February, the existing round-about will be replaced by traffic lights and drainage work will be undertaken.
