Newcastle wheelchair athlete Kurt Fearnley has warmed up for two massive races in the US by winning his 11th Sydney Marathon.
Fearnley set out with fellow Novocastrian Christie Dawes, but eventually pulled away to win his 39th marathon overall, from just 60 starts.
“This is the reason why I fell in love with the distance and sport … many years from now.”
Dawes crossed the line 15 minutes later.
“Pretty buggered but I think I snuck under two hours … good on your own.”
