MAN SHOT DEAD BY POLICE IN WARNERS BAY WAS A POSTAL SERVICES OFFICER

The Communications Electrical Plumbing Union has released a statement following the shooting death of a postal services officer in Warners Bay.

The full statement is outlined below:

STATEMENT FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS ELECTRICAL PLUMBING UNION

It is with regret that I inform you of a police shooting at Warners Bay Post Office (Newcastle) that has resulted in a Postal Services Officer (male) being shot a number of times and is now deceased.

The deceased man was a member of the Union and his name is presently withheld.

Despite his long history of mental health disorders that has resulted in this horrific and tragic sad circumstance, he was always held in high regard and supported by his colleagues.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends along with our local retail members who have been subjected to this horrific ordeal late this afternoon.

If members require counselling services they should approach their local manager directly in this regard. The Union is available to assist members with this type of support being obtained.

Yours faithfully,

JIM METCHER
