200 WORKERS IN LIMBO AS SANITARIUM ANNOUNCES COORANBONG CLOSURE

Sanitarium will close its ageing plant at Cooranbong leaving up to 200 workers in limbo.

The company says it’s “consolidating” its New South Wales manufacturing plants to Berkeley Vale on the Central Coast.

The Cooranbong factory will be phased out and eventually closed by the end of 2018.

The company says the Cooranabong factory was built in 1937 and has become difficult to maintain.

“Consolidating our existing Cooranbong operations with our larger, modern facilities at Berkeley Vale sets Sanitarium up for future growth and represents a new phase in Sanitarium’s presence in the Australian market,” said Todd Saunders, General Manager, Sanitarium Australia.

One worker has told NBN News, staff were informed of the move this morning and that many are now in limbo.

The company says it will try to relocate part of its workforce.

“Where we can offer transfers to our other sites, we will. If we are unable to relocate staff they will be assured of their full entitlements,” he said.
