HUNTER WOMAN ACCUSED OF POISONING GIRL

A Hunter Valley woman has been charged, in relation to the alleged poisoning of her 9-year-old daughter.

Police allege the woman intravenously gave the girl a ‘contaminated substance’ earlier this year, resulting in her being admitted to hospital with renal failure and other serious medical conditions.

She has since been released and is recovering.

It’s also alleged the girl was given tablets last year which caused medical problems.

Detectives attached to Strike Force Twine arrested the girl’s 42-year-old mother this morning.

She was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with using poison to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm and assault causing actual bodily harm.

The woman has been granted conditional bail and is due to face court next month.
