WEATHER WITH GAV: WINTER STORM LATEST

Over the weekend we are going to witness a very impressive winter storm that will propel the ski season from from barren to buried.

There is very little natural snow on the ground but because it has been so cold this winter there are good layers and runs covered with man made snow.

The whole system is going to take a number of days to pass.

For us we will see the first front move through on Saturday, that could fire up some storm activity as the cold air begins to mix with the warmer air that is now building up across northern NSW and South East QLD.

Overnight and into Sunday the winds will increase and the mercury will plummet.

Snow will begin to fall on the Barringtons before extending further north along the northern ranges, potentially into QLD across the Granite Belt and Darling Downs.

The low should intensify on Monday maintaining the strong icy South Westerly winds across our region with more snow to fall across the elevated areas of New England.

The winds will be strong enough to cause some damage such as downed trees especially on the higher peaks so be aware if you intend on searching for snow.

Roads may close due to icy conditions during this period as well. Take care and be prepared.

Should be a very interesting weather event to observe.

We are still a number of days out from this forecast event and things may change so I will continue to give daily updates.
