Councillor for Cessnock, Jeff Maybury passed away yesterday evening after a battle with cancer.
Jeff Maybury had lived in the Weston and Abermain district for all of his 71 years.
He served more than 34 of those years on Cessnock Council.
The councillor formerly worked as a telephone technician and coal miner. He was president of the Weston RSL Sub-Branch.
Jeff will be remembered for his commitment for his community work with the Tidy Towns movement and St Vincent De Paul organisation.
He was instrumental in the battle to save Kurri Hospital and was once part of a sit-in at the Commonwealth Bank in Weston when it decided to close its doors in the mid 90s.
