MACLEAN MAN DIES DURING RUGBY LEAGUE GAME

Tragedy on the far north coast this afternoon, with the sudden death of a 29-year-old rugby league player at Ballina.

The man from Maclean was playing reserve grade football for Lower Clarence against the Ballina Seagulls, when he collapsed early in the game.

It’s believed he suffered a seizure, reportedly after a head clash.

An off-duty paramedic playing for the Seagulls rushed to his aid, as did Ballina’s club doctor, but the man couldn’t be revived.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
