State Emergency Service crews on the Mid North Coast are on standby tonight, with concerns that the heavy rain could heighten the impact of high tides due at Port Macquarie.
Complicating matters further is the number of people in town for the Australian Ironman event.
“The tides around eight o’clock at settlement point that’ll be a key factor for us obviously there is quite a lot of visitors in the Port Macquarie area tonight so we are hoping things will calm down, Mid North Coast SES Deputy Regional Commander Tony Day said.
The Mid North Coast SES has already responded to more than 40 jobs since lunchtime yesterday.
Crews have come from across the state to assist in the efforts, with many exhausted from the two week onslaught of wild weather across New South Wales.
A moderate flood warning is in place for the Hastings River upriver near Kindee Bridge.
