LIVERPOOL PLAINS WANTS MORE DROUGHT SUPPORT
Liverpool Plains Mayor Andrew Hope is calling on the region’s state and federal government representatives
Following a number of Fit for the Future events in the shire, he says it is clear that the agriculture sector is suffering.
There are reports a number of farmers are facing another season without income.
Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce says he knows more needs to be done.
“I have to validate those concerns we have to have some form of record that we can ascertain being verifiable to compare one area to the other, otherwise of course we’d have the whole nation saying that we’re in drought and we just don’t have the money to deal with it.”
An economic stimulus package for drought affected areas is expected to be announced in the federal budget.
