HIGH COURT BACKS ICAC ON COAL LICENCE CORRUPTION

The High Court has ruled the ICAC did have the legal power to cancel the controversial coal licences granted to Cascade Coal and Nucoal Resources.

Last year, the ICAC found Cascade’s Mt Penny and Glendonbrook licences were granted after corrupt behaviour by former Labor powerbroker Eddie Obeid and former Minister Ian Macdonald. The commission also found Nucoal’s Doyle’s Creek licence was also tainted.

Neither Cascade Coal or Nucoal Resources will be able to sue the New South Wales Government for compensation.
