GREENS VOW TO SUPPORT LANDCARE
The Greens have pledged its support for Landcare organisations across the state, committing $7 million a year for four years, if elected on March 28.
The party’s agricultural spokesperson Jeremy Buckingham also criticised the National Party’s $15 million commitment over four years, that was announced earlier this week.
“That’s only half the money that Landcare needs, our money actually funds Landcare as they need it. It puts in place the money to run the bureaucracy, to make sure the coordinators are there..”
Greens candidate for the Northern Tablelands Mercurius Goldstein says tree planting projects like the one at Dumaresq Creek need support.
“Landcare in New South Wales has done an amazing job over 30 years and it’s mostly volunteer efforts that have done things like stabilise river banks, rehabilitate farm land and give us all a public benefit of secure waterways and land quality.”
