ZIPPING WILLOW NOMINATED FOR GREYHOUND OF YEAR

He’s the reigning New South Wales Trainer of the Year, now one of Jason Mackay’s runners has been nominated for the Greyhound of the Year award.

Based at Mackay’s property at Richmond Vale, Zipping Willow has been one of the most consistent performers in Australia for the past 12 months.

In 2014, she won 21 races from 30 starts, including 13 at Wentworth Park.

The awards are presented in Sydney on February 20.

Mitchell Hughes started as a tape editor in Newcastle in 1999. He became a reporter in 2004, working in Lismore and on the Gold Coast. Since moving back to the Newcastle office in 2006, he's taken on various roles, such as producer and chief of staff. He became the head sport reporter in 2011 and the main sport presenter in 2015.
