LAST TRAIN OUT OF NEWCASTLE – FOR NOW

After decades of debate, there’s been a turning point in the Newcastle rail line saga with what may be the last train out of Newcastle leaving last night.

The 11:21 to the Central Coast left six minutes late at 11.27, to be the last passenger train out of Newcastle station.

Around 20 Save Our Rail campaigners rode the train one last time.

Today, Save Our Rail supporters have talked to commuters at Broadmeadow railway station to argue their case, and gain feedback on the replacement services.

Shuttle bus services were in place, with the transport interchange seeming to work without a hitch this morning.

Work also began to dismantle parts of the rail infrastructure around inner-city stations today.

The legal battle will resume in the NSW Supreme Court in the New Year.
