SOUTHERLY BUSTER

Today has seen one of the strongest southerly’s of the year pass over Newcastle. It’s not that this southerly is super strong it is just that all the rest have been so weak. The past Spring saw plenty of light to moderate onshore days and the Winter was dominated by westerly’s. The change is tracking north, firing up storms and heavy periods of rain along the NSW coast and mountains and will really fire things up once it reaches Queensland. Sadly very little rain has fallen across the north-west once again. East coast low formations have also been rare this year and one is now ready to form, which will kick up the swell and drive strong onshore winds and gusty showers onto the coast. Inland across the north-west will see little of this wet weather activity. The monsoon trough that has triggered the hyper active early storm season, is being pushed back to northern Australia and the storms will now ease.
