A young girl from Taree has been commended by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales, for assisting her mother during a medical episode.

10-year-old Sha-Kayla Mudford remained on the phone to emergency services on September 24, while her father provided assistance to her mum, Tanya, who was having a diabetic seizure.

The Ambulance Service says Sha-Kayla was able to provide important first-aid information, including updates on her mother’s condition and details about her medical history.

Today she was awarded the Star Award, which recognised her ability to remain calm in a stressful situation.

Sha-Kayla’s little sister, La’Kasha, was also commended with a special teddy.
