Lake Macquarie sailor Chris Nicholson and his crew are working on salvaging what they can from their around-the-world racing yacht,which has been wrecked on a reef off Mauritius.
While making contact with race officials, Nicholson told how the yacht, Team Vestas Wind, was breaking up around him as darkness set in, and other competitors and rescuers stood at the ready.
Safe, but with their race now over, the shipwrecked sailors will be transferred by boat to Mauritius tomorrow.
