WICKHAM TRANSPORT INTERCHANGE APPROVED

The state government is pressing ahead with its plans for Newcastle’s CBD, today giving the green light to a new transport interchange at Wickham.

The interchange will be an open plan design, with train platforms, taxi bays and CCTV.

Transport Minister, Gladys Berejiklian, says the work will begin immediately after the heavy rail line is cut on Boxing Day.

“The interchange – which will integrate trains, buses, taxis, light rail, cyclists and car drop-off and pick-ups – is a key part of the NSW Government’s plans to revitalise Newcastle, alongside light rail from Wickham to the beach,” she said.

Plans for the building were on public exhibition throughout August.

About 200 people lodged submissions.

  1. Re Wickham Transport Interchange approved. What?! Approved in Sydney, before the Inquiry in Newcastle into the recent planning processes has been completed. I don’t want this at all but let’s at least have a moratorium on these tainted plans.

  2. For the life of me I cannot see how an interchange will help our city. Any perison who has little children with prams, strollers or people with limited mobility will all be finding it difficult to get off a train to catch another mode of transport just to get to the foreshore or honeysuckle precinct near civic.. The logistics for these ppl will be very difficult. Then you have beach goers having to get off at Wickham and re load onto whatever is available or walk the extra kilometres.. I also am asking why this is being pushed and announced on the day NCC Has had its election.. And to close the train line on Boxing Day is of my opinion ludicrous!Things that make you go hmmmm
