NSW GOVERNMENT REJECTS PROPOSAL FOR A ROCK WALL AT OLD BAR

The state government has rejected a proposal for a rock wall at Old Bar.

Environment Minister Rob Stokes made the announcement today, saying he will certify Taree Council’s Coastal Zone Management Plan, bar the rock wall.

The Minister says the construction of a wall is likely to transfer erosion problems to future generations, which is unacceptable.

He also says the 50-year lifespan of protection from the wall doesn’t justify the cost of construction at $50 million.

The Department of Planning and Environment will meet with Council next week to go over the decision.
