SPECIAL BIRTHDAY FOR NEWCASTLE ICON

It’s a significant piece of Newcastle’s industrial history, and today Austube Mills, formerly known as OneSteel, celebrated its 80th birthday.

Past and present employees joined in the celebrations, as a time capsule filled with iconic mementos was presented to Deputy Lord Mayor Brad Luke, to be opened in 40 years time.

“It’s great we can get some people together and celebrate what is an important milestone for us in 80 years in Newcastle.”

The company has employed more than 10,000 people in its eight decades.
