TIM OWEN ADMITS HE LIED TO ICAC

In a sensational development, Newcastle MP Tim Owen has admitted lying to the ICAC about returning $10,000 in cash he received from a Hunter developer.

While in the stand yesterday, Owen said he returned the envelope of $100 bills to Jeff McCloy, a day after taking it during a meeting on Hunter Street.

It’s been revealed Owen met with McCloy on Sunday, where he agreed he would tell the ICAC he was given about $2,000 by the Newcastle mayor but returned it the following day.

This morning he admitted to the Corruption Commission, “I kept it.”

Now in its fourth day, the inquiry is examining whether Liberal MPs Andrew Cornwell and Tim Owen accepted illegal donations during the 2011 state election.
