COLD CASE MURDER: NEWCASTLE MAN CHARGED

A 43-year-old Newcastle man has been charged in relation to an unsolved rape and murder case dating back to 1988.

66-year-old Doris Fenbow was found inside her burning unit in the Sydney suburb of Little Bay on September 3, 1988.

It’s alleged the man, who was 17 at the time, and lived in a neighbouring unit, sexually assaulted and strangled Mrs Fenbow.

Despite a Coronial Inquest in 1989, the case went cold.

The case was reopened under Strike Force Goodacre and included a forensic review.

The man appeared before Newcastle Local Court on Monday morning where bail was refused. He’ll front Central Local Court on the 3rd of June.
