MAP: NEW YEAR’S EVE FIREWORKS PLANNER

Newcastle Foreshore

Newcastle Council will only host a 9pm fireworks display this year, after announcing it will cancel its midnight show in a bid to focus on a more family-friendly event. Newcastle and Foreshore Parks are recommended as the best vantage points for the fireworks and there will be no public access to Fort Scratchley and surrounds on the night (see below).

If you’re planning to watch the show from Stockton, Griffiths Park and Pitt Street Reserve will be accessible to vehicles from 9am on the day. Vehicles can remain overnight, however no camping is permitted.

Nobbys Lighthouse breakwall will be closed from 7pm, with fireworks to be set off from the headland.

Fort Scratchley 

The historic site will play host to an exclusive James Bond-themed charity event with proceeds going to the Fort Scratchley Historical Society and The Hunter Children’s Research Foundation. Tickets can be bought $195 per person at Ticketek.

Newcastle Museum 

The museum will be turning into a barnyard to celebrate the 2014 International Year of the Family Farmer. A petting zoo and line dancing will run from 5.30pm. The event is free, families are encouraged to bring a picnic. Activities will conclude at 8.30pm.

Bolton Street between Scott Street and Hunter Street (Half closure)

4:30pm to 3am
Scott Street between Bolton Street and Pacific Street
Watt Street, Bolton Street & Newcomen Street between Scott Street and King Street
Zaara Street and Moroney Avenue, between Shortland Esplanade and Scott Street
Hunter Street between Darby Street and Pacific Street

Port Stephens Fireworks

d’Albora Marinas Nelson Bay will host two fireworks displays at 9pm and midnight.

The display will be accompanied by live music and kid’s entertainment.

Lake Macquarie 

The only fireworks on the lake this year will be hosted by Wangi Wangi RSL and Wangi District Workers Club. The one and only 9pm display will be fired from a barge in the lake. Anywhere along the foreshore is a good spot for families, with most arriving around 4pm.

Gosford New Year’s Eve Festival

An “Evening On The Waterfront” will commence at 5pm with children’s shows, food stalls and jumping castle’s through to 7pm.

There’S just one fireworks display at 9pm, on the waterfront and a carnival at Pavier’s Waterfront open till January 11.

The Entrance

A family friendly alcohol free event will kick off at 5pm at Memorial Park Stage.

Stalls and rides will be in the park as well as a 9pm fireworks display.

Maitland

The Maitland river front will be hive of activity with a fireworks display at 9pm and midnight.

Festivities will start at 5pm with face-painting, rides, jumping castle and music.

  1. The Wangi fire works are courtesy of WANGI RSL, the Workers Club came on board later. This event was not going to be held this year and if it had not been for the great people of the local area and their determination to have this event the fireworks would not be happening.The local community raised funds to put the fireworks on this year and the RSL has added more money on top of this. It should be an excellent display of at least 20 mins.
